Website Builder / Website-Building Platform

Website Essentials

These are the tools used to build the infrastructure of your house. Think of this as the main walls and the floorplan of your house.

Examples of website-building platforms are Wix, Wordpress, Shopify, Squarespace, Weebly, etc. While there are some areas of overlap, some are better suited for certain kinds of projects and certain types of users.

On a website-building platform, you typically build your pages and edit the layouts and designs on the “backend” (the editing interface) and then you can see the final result on the “frontend” (the published website pages, which are what the public sees).

Most website-building platforms offer templates as a starting point, where you can drag-and-drop different items into the template to make it your own, or you can start from a blank slate. Wix offers some pretty nice templates to start from, compared to some others out there, however, I do view any template as just that: a starting point.

At the end of the day, you need to choose a platform that is going to serve you and your project best, rather than rely on someone else’s opinion, who might be doing something completely different than you. In order to compare and weigh the options that are best suited for coaches, consultants, creatives, and multi-passionate entrepreneurs, please see the post breaking down the main options and simplifying your selection process.
