Website Essentials
Web hosting is like renting space on the internet so people can visit your website. Just like a house needs land to sit on, your website needs a place to live—and that’s what a web host provides. It stores all your website’s files and makes sure people can access them 24/7.
Choosing a Hosting Plan
A Hosting Plan comes at a monthly fee, depending on your web needs (in other words how complex your build will be because afterall, a simple house isn’t the same as a hotel complex). So, the more features you want the site to do, the higher your hosting will run you. You can usually save some money if you pay up front for a year or two at a time.
You don't have to go all in at once. If you want to start a website and a year later add a blog, then two years later add a storefront (and thus, start accepting payments) a good web hosting company will allow some flexibility for you to upgrade or downgrade over time. My opinion? Being locked in and stuck paying for what you don't use is so old school and not how life works. Look for a company that reflects that.
Where do you get a Hosting Plan?
I highly recommend purchasing your hosting plan where you also buy your domain name and intend to build your website, so everything is managed (and paid for) out of one central place.
